Rogers Communications is rolling out high-speed 5G 5G internet in a number of TTC subway tunnels. The company announced that the rollout of the 5G network will begin this week in the tunnels between Kennedy and Warden stations on Line 2. and finally it will connect 36 km of tunnel.
Currently, this mobile phone service is available in the tunnels and at all stations on Lines 1 and 2 between Bloor-Young and St. George. It is also available at the Castle Frank, Sherbourne and Dupont stations, and at the stations between Spadina and Keele, and passengers can call 911 in these areas.
Work will be done overnight and during the weekend to minimize disruption to TTC passengers.
Last year, the federal government and Canada's Innovation, Science and Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne announced that all major telecommunications companies must provide full network access at all TTC stations by June.
Last August, Rogers launched 5G at the TTC's busiest subway station and rolled out the service to all passengers in the fall. In December, it added the service for passengers at other stations and in the Vaughn tunnels between Sheppard West and Vaughan.
In April 2023, Rogers purchased the cellular network in the TTC subway system from BAI Canada, committing to upgrade the existing infrastructure, which only Freedom Mobile customers had access to since 2015, and expand it across the subway map. to give
