Raffle for concert tickets snagged by mental health advocate Kristi Allan expected to raise thousands
Christy Allen, a mental health advocate, is expected to gather thousands of people for a concer ticket raffle. She found two tickets for the opening night of the Toronto Eras Tour on November 14th. Allen messaged the seller and asked them to leave the auction and sell them for a good cause. When the seller actually did that, Allen couldn't believe it. Allen said, "Greed has put many people in the spotlight, but he could have made more money from these tickets." Allen has been raising money for the Jacob Puddister Memorial Foundation for three years. This foundation provides free counseling and support services to individuals aged 12 to 35.
The foundation was launched after the death of Jacob Puddister, a 21-year-old who took his own life in 2016. His sister, Kelsey, expressed gratitude to Allen for the work she has done in raising funds and raising awareness for their foundation. Puddister said, "Christy has helped us more than I ever imagined as an individual." It's truly frustrating when someone sees and values the work we do, and I can't thank her enough for it." The foundation is selling approximately 2,000 tickets (unfortunately, due to provincial lottery regulations, it's less than the 1989 tickets) for a grand prize.
Allen mentioned that the demand has been so high that her email inbox has broken several times, which makes her very happy. The foundation does incredible and valuable work, and Allen appreciates it all. In the past two years, Allen has protested every week for better access to long-term mental health support. She even protested on her wedding day. She described it as a disheartening experience. She previously protested outside Waterford Hospital before taking it to the Confederation Building for policymakers.
