Quebec notaries can no longer accept digital signatures
The Ministry of Justice has decided that Quebec notaries will no longer be allowed to accept digital signatures.
Procedures were changed during the COVID-19 pandemic to allow people to sign documents from home after passing all security checks.
However, the Quebec government rescinded its order last month, forcing everyone to sign the papers in person again — much to the chagrin of notaries and customers.
The official reason given by Justice Minister Simon Julien-Barrett's office is that safety and regulatory issues may be at stake.
