Tens of thousands of homes in the Maritime region lost power due to the storm's impact.

After the occurrence of the post-tropical storm Lee in the Maritime and Atlantic regions of Canada, tens of thousands of households have lost power, and power crews are currently working to restore it.

As of Saturday afternoon, September 16, 2023, more than 172,500 customers of Nova Scotia Power have been without electricity due to the impacts of post-tropical storm Lee and its movement towards the Maritime regions.

As of 11:30 PM on Saturday, Nova Scotia Power reported that approximately 2,078 power outages have occurred due to post-tropical storm Lee, affecting more than 121,000 subscribers, especially in the western part of the province and the Halifax Metro area.

Matt Drover, the hurricane response lead at Nova Scotia Power, stated in a Saturday morning announcement: "Crews have been able to restore power to some customers early this morning, but conditions may deteriorate further due to the advancing post-tropical storm Lee. In many cases, especially when winds are blowing at speeds exceeding 80 kilometers per hour in the region, it is not safe for crews to be on-site at outage locations, so we are focusing on damage assessment and power restoration."

Nova Scotia Power emphasized in an announcement that if you come across fallen power lines, please stay away from them and consider them as highly energized sources of electricity and report them to 1-800-428-8771.

New Brunswick Power also reported 527 outages affecting more than 15,000 customers in the Fredericton area as of 11:30 PM on Saturday. The primary reason for these outages is trees coming into contact with power lines, and we expect that with the passage of post-tropical storm Lee through New Brunswick, new outages may also be reported. Furthermore, Maritime Electric's outages have caused power to be cut for approximately 3,100 customers as of 10 PM on Saturday. Dozens of contractor crews have received necessary safety training to ensure that they are in safe conditions while working on the PEI electrical system.
