Porter Airlines flight makes emergency landing in Regina, Sask.
A passenger plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Regina International Airport (YQR) on Tuesday night.
According to YQR airport officials, Porter Airlines Flight 483, which was en route from Hamilton, Ontario to Vancouver, British Columbia, diverted to Regina at approximately 8:20 p.m. local time.
“The captain made the decision to land in Regina as a precautionary measure after the smell of smoke was detected in the cabin, although no smoke was visible,” the airline told CTV News in a statement.
Regina Airport Authority CEO James Bogosh said the airport and its emergency response teams were following their emergency plan.
“[The pilots] declared an emergency and landed at the airport to divert the flight. Our emergency response teams also responded, but fortunately the aircraft landed safely,” he added.
Bogush said there were 91 passengers on board the flight and all passengers were safely disembarked and entered the airport terminal.
“Our emergency response was very quick. Special thanks to our emergency partners in Regina who are a critical part of our emergency response plan,” Bogush said.
“Fortunately, in this case, the aircraft landed safely.”
A Porter Airlines spokesperson said:
“The passengers will be staying overnight at a hotel and will be re-routing to Vancouver tomorrow. We appreciate the support of Regina Airport and the patience of our passengers. Safety is always our top priority.”
YQR Airport said the airport operations were not impacted by the emergency landing and remain open and operational.
