Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House today, their first face-to-face meeting since Canada's election and amid a tense trade war between the two countries.

2:15 p.m.:
Mark Carney left the White House and is scheduled to hold a news conference at the Canadian Embassy in Washington at 3 p.m. ET.
12:58 p.m.:
During a joint press conference, Carney said, "Canada is not for sale and never will be," when asked about Canada becoming the 51st state of the United States.
"The real opportunity is in partnership," he continued.
Trump, while praising Canada's military spending increase, said, "Never say never."
Carney responded in an offhand, lip-synched response, "Never, never, never."

Trump said he had been asked by Justin Trudeau what would happen if a 25% tariff were imposed on Canada’s auto industry.
Trudeau had replied, “That would be the end of Canada,” and Trump called the response “weird.”
