Increased speed limits on some Ontario highways
The speed limit on some sections of Highway 401 and parts of other Ontario highways will be increased this Friday. According to Canadian media reports and according to Ontario, the speed limit will increase from 100 km/h to 110 km/h in these areas.
The change applies to 10 sections of provincial highways, including Highway 401 from Colborne to Belleville and from Belleville to Kingston, as well as Highway 403 from Woodstock to Brantford and from Brantford to Hamilton.
In some areas, this increased speed limit will be implemented later this year.
"Most of Ontario's highways were originally designed to have a speed limit of 110 km/h," Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria said in an April news release. This speed increase is the right change to make things easier for Ontario drivers."
In 2022, the government permanently increased the speed limit on six sections of provincial highways in southern Ontario, as well as two sections in northern Ontario, on a two-year trial basis.
