Soraya Martinez-Fernanda, the newly elected mayor of Montreal, will earn a salary of about $221,000 CAD per year. This figure is based on the 2024 fiscal year and the salary level of the previous mayor (Valerie Plante).

At the same time, her new salary will be approximately $80,000 less than her previous federal government income, when she was a member of parliament and Canada's tourism minister, when her combined earnings were close to $302,000.

Therefore, the salary change represents a decrease of about 36% in the new mayor's annual income compared to her previous position at the federal level.

Martinez-Fernanda is the first mayor with an immigrant background to lead Montreal.
