Health Canada issues a country-wide recall notice for children’s jewelry due to high levels of lead
Health Canada has issued a nationwide recall of some children's jewelry due to high levels of lead, according to a notice last updated Friday.
Some products from the children's jewelry brand Boutique Chic are included in the recall. According to the agency, tests on the products showed that they contained lead levels that exceeded the permitted level.
The jewelry includes All Smiles necklaces, bracelets and rings with a rotating smiley face pendant.
Lead is a highly toxic substance for children.
Exposure to high levels of lead and cadmium can lead to symptoms such as anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures and even coma. It can also cause serious damage to the brain, liver, kidneys, heart and immune system. In some cases, poisoning with these metals can be fatal.
According to the importing company, 2,047 of these pieces of jewelry were sold across Canada from January to May of this year. Fortunately, as of May 15, 2025, no incidents or injuries related to these products have been reported.

Under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, it is illegal to sell, import or advertise jewelry containing more than 90 milligrams of lead per kilogram to children under the age of 15.
