Halifax's goalkeeper Moussedez shocked the crowd by scoring a stunning goal.
Hockey fans who lost a game in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) on Friday night may think there's been a mistake when they look at the points table. After a 6-4 victory against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, the scorer became known as the sixth goal scorer for Halifax Mooseheads.
In the late stages of the third period, 19-year-old Mathis Rousseau picked up the puck, calmly placed it in front of his stick, and shot it directly from one end of the rink to the other into the empty net. In front of a crowd of over 7,500 stunned fans at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, the young goaltender from Boisbriand received unexpected accolades while celebrating the victory with his teammates.
Rousseau, in addition to captivating the fans with his goal, will etch his name into the franchise's history as he becomes the first goaltender to score for the Halifax Mooseheads.
After the game, in which the Halifax team secured their seventh win of the campaign, Rousseau said that taking the opportunity to score was something he had wanted to "try all his life," but he never thought he would see the day he achieved it.
