Giant Tiger, a Canadian discount store chain, is warning of a recent cyber security breach that involved customer information.
The company announced on Saturday that it was aware of issues affecting a "third-party vendor" that the company uses to manage customer relationships.
The chain says a third party was able to obtain copies of customer information on March 4. Giant Tiger has since hired cybersecurity experts to help with independent investigations.
The chain says the information that may be involved varies from person to person, but may include:
Customers who have subscribed to Giant Tiger emails or created an account on the chain's website will have their name and email information included.
Anyone who is a member of the GT VIP Loyalty Program includes information about the customer's name, email and phone number.
Anyone who has placed an order for online delivery includes information about the customer's name, email, street address and phone number.
Anyone who has placed an order for delivery at a local store includes information about the customer's name, email, and phone number.
Giant Tiger says the information does not include credit cards, other payment information or passwords.
The chain also says it is contacting any customers whose information was involved in the incident.
The company also warns about any email, letter, text message or phone call that appears to be from Giant Tiger.
"We deeply regret this incident," Tiger Giants wrote in a statement on Saturday. We want to assure you that we are doing our best to resolve this incident as quickly and transparently as possible. Your privacy is important to us and we remain committed to using best practices to prevent such incidents."
