Environment Canada issues another freezing rain warning for Friday
Another significant freezing rain storm is set to hit Ottawa today.
Environment Canada says the capital could see an accumulation of 5 to 10 millimeters of ice beginning this Friday morning and ending in the afternoon.
"An episode of freezing rain similar to what occurred Wednesday and Wednesday night will affect the region. Freezing rain may fall for several hours," Environment Canada said.
If temperatures reach above zero, there may be a change in precipitation in some places on Friday.
Ottawa received about 4.6 mm of freezing rain until 1 am on Thursday.
The Rideau Canal Skateway is temporarily closed until further notice to preserve ice and limit damage from warmer temperatures and rain.
School buses in Ottawa and across eastern Ontario were canceled Thursday as overnight freezing rain left a coating of ice on roads and sidewalks across the region.
Environment Canada says surfaces such as highways, roads, crosswalks and parking lots can become icy and slippery.
It is likely to affect rush hour traffic in urban areas and power outages may occur.
Ottawa Hydro says it will continue to monitor the weather and has crews on standby. People are advised to be prepared in case of prolonged power outages.
