End of Kraft and Heinz alliance; splitting major food brands into two companies
Kraft Heinz announced that it will split into two independent companies after a decade of its major merger. The decision follows a strategic review of the company and is set to take effect in the second half of 2026.
According to the official announcement, one company, temporarily called Global Taste Elevation Co., will be responsible for making sustainable food products and brands such as Heinz ketchup, Philadelphia cream cheese and Kraft Mac & Cheese. The other, temporarily called North American Grocery Co., will own brands such as Oscar Mayer, Kraft Singles and Lunchables.
Carlos Abrams-Rivera, the current CEO of Kraft Heinz, will serve as CEO of North American Grocery Co. after the separation, and a search has begun for a new CEO to lead Global Taste Elevation Co..
Kraft Heinz, formed in 2015 by Warren Buffett and investment firm 3G Capital, has faced declining sales and changing consumer tastes in recent years. The company hopes that the new structure will allow it to manage its financial resources and investments more purposefully.
The two companies will remain headquartered in Chicago and Pittsburgh, and the company's stock price rose slightly after the news of the separation was released.
