End of Daylight Saving Time in Canada: An Hour More Sleep, Shorter Days
On Sunday, November 2, most of Canada will turn its clocks back an hour, giving it a chance to sleep in more! But the change comes with its own setbacks: shorter days and earlier nights.
The practice of changing daylight saving time in Canada began in 1908 and is still a controversial issue.
Some researchers have pointed to negative health effects, including disrupted sleep patterns and disrupted circadian rhythms. Proponents also say that it helps optimize energy use.
Today, many parts of Canada observe daylight saving time, but some provinces and territories, including Saskatchewan and parts of British Columbia, do not. The Yukon Territory does not observe daylight saving time at all.
This is not just a Canadian issue; the United States has also been considering eliminating seasonal time changes. For example, Donald Trump has proposed abolishing the practice, and a bill is being introduced in Congress that would permanently eliminate daylight saving time.
