Construction begins on Toronto-Quebec City high-speed train
The Canadian government has announced that a major project called “Alto” is set to revolutionize transportation between the two metropolitan areas of Toronto and Quebec City. According to plans, construction of this high-speed rail line could begin within the next four years.
The line will be about 1,000 kilometers long and trains will reach speeds of 300 kilometers per hour, which would reduce travel time between Montreal and Toronto to about three hours.
Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc has emphasized that the federal Office of Major Projects will expedite the permitting and engineering stages. He also emphasized the need for extensive consultation with indigenous communities in choosing the final route, which will be determined over the next four years.
🔹 The value of the design contract for this project has been announced at 3.9 billion Canadian dollars.
🔹 The development phase is expected to last only 4 to 5 years.
🔹 The total cost of the project is also estimated at between 60 and 90 billion Canadian dollars.
