Canada sent a men's gymnastics team to the Olympics for the first time since 2008
"For the first time since 2008, Canada has decided to send a men's gymnastics team to the Olympics Canada, needing to secure a spot among the top 12 teams to qualify for the Olympics, finished fourth in the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships on Monday to guarantee their presence. The team, consisting of René Cournoyer, Felix Dolci, William Emard, Jason Rampersad, Zachary Clay, and Yanni Chronopoulos, with a total score of 249.260 in six events, will head to the Paris 2024 Games.
Cournoyer said, 'Our primary goal before these World Championships was to qualify a team for the Olympics.' He added, 'This fourth-place finish is of great importance, and I'm proud of all my teammates.' Cournoyer is the only team member with previous Olympic experience, having competed in the Tokyo Games in 2021 in Repentigny, Quebec.
Canada is now gearing up for competition in the team finals on Wednesday. Japan (258.228), the United States (254.528), Britain (254.193), Germany (248.862), Italy (248.796), Switzerland (248.192), and China (248.163) will also be present in the finals. Canada's women's team secured a spot in the Olympics in the 2022 World Championships. The team, consisting of three Olympians – Ellie Black, Laurie Denommée, Sydney Turner, Denelle Pedrick, and Ava Spencer – earned Canada's first team medal in the world with a bronze."
