Boy, 8, killed in crash involving snow plow on B.C.'s icy Highway 3
An 8-year-old boy has died after a collision between a snow plow and a car on British Columbia's Highway 3.
The crash happened Saturday morning around 8 a.m. near the town of Castlegar in B.C.'s West Kootenay region, according to a release Tuesday from the British Columbia Highway Patrol.
The boy was traveling with his 5-year-old brother and their 44-year-old stepfather in a Kia SUV when a winter storm brought freezing rain and icy conditions to the area.
On the icy roads, the car collided with a snowplow, causing it to spin and hit a pedestrian who was helping another car that had gone onto a dirt road.
The boy's stepfather and brother, both from Nelson, suffered minor injuries in the crash. The pedestrian, a 57-year-old man from Castlegar, suffered life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the snow removal truck, a 65-year-old man from the Castlegar area, appeared to be uninjured.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call the Nelson Highway Patrol at 250-354-5180.
"We are looking for dash cam video or anyone who may have seen the green Kia or the yellow snowplow in the minutes before the crash," Capt. Michael McLaughlin said in the release.
