An old man killed his wife with a knife in a fight over pancakes
An elderly Washington, D.C. man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder after stabbing his 81-year-old wife to death. "Steven Schwartz, 85, did not want to eat the pancakes his wife had made and stabbed him in the back," the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia said in a statement.
According to police, the incident happened Sunday afternoon around 3:40 pm at an apartment on Logan Circle. When the police entered the apartment, they found the injured woman and the man who had committed suicide inside the house and took both to the hospital for treatment, but the woman died from the stab wounds. The victim was identified as Sharon Hilda Schwartz, and police confirmed that the suspect and victim were married.
Steven Schwartz told investigators he hated food and suffered from depression. When his wife tried to force him to eat that day, they argued and he stabbed her. Steven Schwartz told police he and his wife had been married for 40 years.
