Air Canada cuts 400 management jobs after strike
Air Canada announced it will eliminate about 400 management positions. The decision comes two months after a three-day strike by more than 10,000 flight attendants in August that halted operations and canceled more than 3,000 flights. 🚫✈️
Air Canada spokeswoman Angela Ma explained that the tough decision was made after careful consideration and an assessment of the financial impact. The restructuring will affect about 1 percent of the airline’s total workforce. 👷♂️
In its third-quarter financial results, Air Canada said the flight attendant strike cost the airline about $375 million and reduced its adjusted annual profit forecast by about $3 billion. 💰📊
In addition, refunds to customers, compensation and reduced bookings in August and September accounted for the bulk of the airline’s financial loss.
