A woman sued Tim Hortons for putting cream in her tea
A woman from Winnipeg has filed a complaint against Tim Hortons due to an error by its employees. She claims that instead of almond milk, cream was added to her tea, causing a severe allergic reaction that led to her heart stopping for a few minutes. Gabrielle Lien Ho, a 25-year-old, lodged her complaint against the popular coffee and food chain last week.
The lawsuit alleges that Tim Hortons failed to properly train its staff regarding beverages that require alternative ingredients. In the complaint, it is stated that on the morning of June 9th, Gabrielle ordered tea through the Tim Hortons mobile app and selected almond milk as a substitute for dairy. She asserts that at that time, there was no information about allergy warnings.
Before heading to her work at Kildonan Place shopping center, she picked up the drink from Tim Hortons in the same shopping center. After taking a sip of the tea, she realized there was dairy protein in the beverage, immediately triggering an allergic reaction.
She quickly contacted her mother, who advised her to use an EpiPen before going to the hospital. Her colleague took her to the hospital, but her condition worsened on the way, leading to a loss of consciousness.
The lawsuit states that Concordia Hospital staff performed CPR for about eight minutes until Gabrielle's heart spontaneously restarted. She was then transferred to another hospital's intensive care unit and remained there until June 12th.
After being hospitalized, Gabrielle experienced severe headaches, loss of vision, and a tingling or burning sensation along with weakness on her left side. MRI images also indicated that her brain had been deprived of oxygen for some time. She was transferred to a rehabilitation center on June 29th.
Gabrielle's lawyer stated that Tim Hortons needs to make changes to its app to ensure that incidents like what happened to his client do not recur.
