$70M lottery winner dedicates win to late wife
A northern Alberta man calls his $70 million lottery win "bittersweet."
Brian Hoover, of Beaverlodge, won the Jan. 16 drawing by matching all seven first numbers.
Winning the lottery has long been a joke for Hoover and his family, and he said he plans to use some of the money to honor his late wife.
"It's bittersweet for me," Hoover said in his interview to accept the award, "we always talked about what we would do if we won the lottery. I am determined to bring some of these ideas to life in his memory."
Hoover has three children and said he wants to help them and other family members by paying off the mortgage and giving them some cash.
He said he wants to help some local schools and have a park named after his wife.
"These are all fresh thoughts," Hoover said. I want to make sure I do good things. Using this money and investing in his memory is a way to share this win with him.
With what's left, Hoover said he'll look into his treatment.
Brad Hoover was Alberta's second biggest winner in the past two days. On Thursday, three Calgary friends shared a $50 million jackpot.
