Via Rail is expanding its service in Ontario
The company Via Rail is expanding its services in Ontario and aims to exceed pre-pandemic levels of service.
Starting from late October, the royal company will launch two round-trip journeys between Toronto and Ottawa and one round-trip journey between London and Toronto.
This expansion of services comes three and a half years after some projects were put on hold due to the pandemic, and Via Rail had to consider suspending routes across Canada and restructure around 1,000 of its employees.
Via Rail's CEO states that the company's goal is to strike a balance between passenger needs and existing routes. Over the past three months, the company has incurred losses of $120 million, and it has been unable to achieve annual profits since 2017.
These extensive services, announced on a Thursday, will involve employee training and the introduction of new Siemens trains and resemble Via Rail's pre-pandemic plans.
