Transforming food transportation with LaBlaze's self-driving trucks

LaBlaze has signed a multi-year agreement with Gatique to launch a network of autonomous trucks in Canada. The fleet will include 50 trucks that will gradually enter LaBlaze’s Toronto distribution network starting next year.

The partnership, which began in 2022, will lead to the launch of Canada’s first commercial autonomous fleet. Initially, the trucks will operate with safety drivers, before gradually becoming fully autonomous. The trucks will be able to transport sensitive and temperature-controlled food using Gatique’s artificial intelligence.

Gatique has also developed a regulatory framework with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation to ensure the safety of the fleet. LaBlaze said the change will not affect headcount and is aimed at increasing capacity and creating a more innovative supply chain.

LaBlaze currently has more than 220,000 employees in 2,800 locations, although the exact number of drivers is not known. It is worth noting that last year, some Canadians boycotted LaBlaze due to rising food prices.
