The third fatal pedestrian accident in Hamilton
Elderly man killed while walking his dog in Hamilton — third pedestrian death in one week
A fatal collision in Hamilton on Thursday morning has claimed the life of an 83-year-old man who was walking his dog. The incident happened shortly before 10 a.m. at the intersection of Upper Ottawa Street and Anson Avenue.
Police say the man was crossing at the marked crosswalk when a northbound red sedan struck him. He was taken to hospital with critical injuries, where he was later pronounced dead. The dog was not hurt.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Hamilton police are asking witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact the collision reconstruction unit.
This tragedy marks the third pedestrian death in Hamilton within one week.
On Nov. 13, a 52-year-old school crossing guard died after being hit by a dump truck.
Two days later, a 42-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries after being struck by a pickup truck.
Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath said the community is in shock and stressed that drivers must slow down and stay attentive to prevent further tragedies.
