U.S. recalls 600K car seats, fix available to Canadians
Nuna Baby Essentials is recalling nearly 609,000 child car seats due to a problem with the seat belt adjuster. This problem can cause the belt to loosen and may not hold children securely.
According to documents released by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall involves Rava seats with plastic seat belt adjuster buttons manufactured between July 16, 2016 and October 25, 2023. Particles entering the belt adjuster can cause it to loosen and increase the risk of injury in accidents.
Nuna is sending owners of these seats a repair kit that includes a new seat pad, instructions for cleaning the belt adjuster, and a screwdriver to remove the plastic cover. The exact date for sending the notification letters to the customers has not been announced yet.
In a statement, the company said that "the recall of Nuna Rava child car seats in the United States does not affect products sold in Canada" and that "Rava seats in Canada continue to comply with the Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Seats Safety Regulations (SOR/2010- 90) are consistent."
New cleaning kits and pads are also available for Canadian customers.
The recall comes after NHTSA began its investigation in October after receiving a public request for the recall.
Owners can call Nuna Customer Service at (855) 686-2891 or contact the company via email at info.usa@nunababy.com for more information.
