The quest to remove polluting vehicles from Toronto's public transportation
A new report has been released stating that by 2031, all Uber, Lyft, taxi, and other ride-sharing vehicles in Toronto must be emission-free, commonly referred to as "zero-emission."
Furthermore, the report recommends that by 2031, all rental vehicles (excluding limousines and vehicles designed for people with disabilities) should also transition to zero-emission vehicles.
This report is set to be discussed in the Toronto City Council meeting on September 21.
In addition, it is recommended that the city support the expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure throughout the city.
It's worth noting that Toronto is not the only city in North America taking steps toward using zero-emission vehicles. Previously, the Mayor of New York proposed the "Green Rides" initiative, which aims to transition the city's fleet of vehicles to zero-emission by 2030.
Furthermore, Uber's strategy is to operate as a global platform with a commitment to producing zero emissions from its vehicles by 2040.
