The opening of greenhouses in Toronto following the cold weather
The City of Toronto has taken steps to address the cold weather predictions for this season by opening warming centers.
Three warming centers were opened in the city at 5:00 PM on Monday due to the forecast indicating a drop in nighttime temperatures to -5 degrees Celsius by Tuesday morning, with a wind chill making it feel like -8 degrees Celsius.
These three warming centers are located downtown at 75 Elizabeth Street, in North York at Willowdale Baptist Church (15 Olive Avenue), and in Scarborough at St. John Davison Anglican Church (885 Golf Club Road).
The warming centers will be activated when the temperature drops to -5 degrees Celsius or when a winter weather event warning is issued by the Environmental Organization. The facilities provide individuals with spaces for rest, meals, restroom facilities, and referrals to emergency shelters during cold weather conditions.
