The Ford government has decided to withdraw the protest from expanding the city limits
The government of Ontario has announced its intention to reconsider its development plans in the urban areas of certain municipalities as part of a program to revise housing policies. Housing Minister Paul Calandra stated on Tuesday that he will soon introduce a new law aimed at reforming the "official plans" of municipal and regional municipalities. The changes will affect the following cities and regions:
- Barrie
- Belleville
- Guelph
- Hamilton
- Ottawa
- Peterborough
- Halton Region
- Niagara Region
- Peel Region
- Waterloo Region
- York Region
- Wellington County
Calandra has indicated that he is reviewing past decisions made by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to ensure that they have been made in a way that preserves and enhances public trust. He also emphasized that there has been excessive interference in these decisions from the Minister's office and individuals within that office.
