The Canadian Mint unveiled coins with the image of King Charles
Canada's first coins featuring the image of King Charles are set to be distributed across the country soon.
The Royal Canadian Mint is scheduled to unveil coins at its Winnipeg boutique on Tuesday, featuring the portrait of King Charles. Additionally, the king's statue is set to be minted on one-dollar coins for the first time.
According to the Royal Mint, a limited number of 2023 coins with the king's image are expected to enter circulation in early December. Coin transactions are set to take place later this month at the Ottawa Mint and Winnipeg Mint boutiques.
The image is an artwork by Canadian portrait artist Steven Rosati, who has also designed other coins, including six silver coins featuring the image of a National Hockey League (NHL) goaltender for the mint.
Earlier this year, the federal government instructed the Royal Mint and the Bank of Canada to replace the image of Queen Elizabeth II on coins and $20 banknotes with the image of King Charles.
