The May long weekend has long been the most popular time of year for gardening in Canada.
Gardening has become more popular since the Covid-19 pandemic as Canadians look for ways to cope with rising food costs, experts say.
The Victoria Day long weekend is considered the start of the gardening season as the weather warms up in most areas.
Some experts believe that in order to have good crops, it is better to start planting vegetable seeds from May 24 so that the weather is warmer and the ground is not cold.
As food prices continue to rise, more people are starting to plant seeds and vegetables. Especially since covid broke out and everyone was quarantined at home and food security became a big issue, many people turned to growing vegetables.
According to the Statistics Canada report, the total sales of greenhouse industries in 2021 reached 4.7 billion dollars, which has increased by 7.5% compared to 2020. The highest sales during that period were in Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec.
Canada's annual inflation rate rose slightly in March, mainly due to higher prices. Statistics Center data released in March showed that the price of food purchased from restaurants increased by 5.1 percent in January compared to the previous year.
