🔹 Tense landing of Toronto-St. Maarten flight; passengers uninformed and disoriented
A WestJet flight from Toronto made a hard landing at St. Maarten’s Princess Juliana International Airport on Sunday evening, causing widespread concern. While no injuries were reported, passengers were treated to an unexpected scene: the runway was closed and an emergency evacuation was conducted.
“We’ve been waiting for three hours and all we’ve received is a text message saying the flight is cancelled, no explanation from the airline,” said John Tzantakis, a passenger from Toronto who was scheduled to return to Canada that night. Many passengers only learned of the incident through social media, he added.
While WestJet officials said all passengers on the crashed flight were safe, the status of subsequent flights remains unclear, with some stranded passengers seeking temporary shelter on the island.
