Ten times the price of hotel rooms on the nights of Taylor Swift's concert
The situation has worsened for Swift fans traveling from other cities to concert cities, as prices for hotel rooms and short-term rentals in Toronto and Vancouver have increased tenfold.
Swift kicks off her record-breaking Canadian tour this month with six dates in Toronto between November 14th and 23rd.
Hotel rooms near the venue on those dates, including the Toronto Marriott City Center Hotel, attached to the Rogers Centre, are said to be $2,000 a night. The price of rooms in the same hotel in early November is $240 per night.
In Vancouver, where Swift ends her world tour with three shows from December 6-8, hotel prices have also increased. The price of the rooms when this singer comes there is about 3 thousand dollars a night. If before that, it is $300 per night.
Alexander Cohen, a spokesman for the Department of Tourism, said the federal government is "concerned by reports of high hotel prices in Toronto and Vancouver." However, he added that consumer law remains a provincial responsibility.
