Son of NTV CEO shot dead in altercation with California police
Geoffrey Shyam Sterling, the son of NTV CEO Scott Sterling, was shot and killed in a shootout with police in Newport Beach, California, on Thursday night.
Sterling was stopped while riding a motorcycle but was uncooperative, police said.
The officer allegedly grabbed a Taser from the officer’s belt and tried to use it on him several times, the report said. The shooting occurred around 9:15 p.m.
Additional officers responded to the scene and administered first aid to Sterling, but he died at the hospital.
The California Department of Justice has now launched an independent investigation into the incident.
NTV CEO Lindsey Andrews said in a statement that she was deeply saddened by the news of Geoffrey Sterling’s death and that the Sterling family was devastated by the news.
"On behalf of all the staff at the Newfoundland Broadcasting Corporation, our thoughts and prayers are with the Sterling family at this difficult time," he added.
Sterling's sister, Lydia McLaughlin, a well-known reality TV personality, also said: "My family and I are deeply saddened by the loss of my brother. We are grateful for the outpouring of support and love from friends, family and the community. We ask for privacy during this time of grief."
