SIU investigating after crash, arrest in northwest Toronto
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has been called out after a crash and subsequent arrest early this morning in northwest Toronto, police say.
Toronto police tweeted that officers were called to the area of Walsh Street and Weston Road, on the border of North York and Etobicoke, just after 1 a.m. for a report of a crash.
The police announced that a car hit a pole in the area and the driver fled on foot.
The driver was found by officers near Wilson Street and Jane Street, police said.
"By law, we cannot comment further," police tweeted.
An SIU spokesperson told CP24 in an email that initial reports indicate the adult male driver was seriously injured while being apprehended by Toronto police officers.
The SIU confirmed that no officers were seriously injured.
The SIU investigates incidents involving police officers where death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault have occurred.
