RCMP say 1 injured, suspect in custody after shooting in Lake Cowichan
A shooting in Lake Cowichan sent a man to the hospital with serious injuries Sunday night.
Police were called to a home on South Shore Road in Lake Cowichan shortly before 11 p.m.
The Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team and armed RCMP canine service were dispatched to the scene and took a 52-year-old suspect into custody, police said.
According to RCMP, the 23-year-old victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.
Police did not release the names of any of the parties involved in the incident or other identifying details. They did not specify the gender of the suspect.
"Investigators are currently working hard to piece together the circumstances leading up to the shooting, including the relationship between the suspect and the victim," said Cpl.
"While the investigation is in its early stages, there is no further risk to the public as only one suspect remains in custody."
A search of online court records for the police case number associated with the case did not turn up Tuesday, indicating no charges have yet been filed.
