Ransomware attack on TDSB and the possibility of endangering people's personal information
The Toronto District School Board announced it was hit by a ransomware attack that could compromise personal information. "We recently became aware that an unauthorized third party accessed the testing environment," the board said in a letter sent to parents on Wednesday. TDSB technology has been accessed; A separate environment used by the TDSB IT Service to test applications prior to their actual implementation at the TDSB. "We are conducting a full investigation to determine the nature of this incident, the impact this attack had on our network, and whether personal information was affected."
According to the Toronto District School Board, its cybersecurity team has taken immediate steps to "secure and protect data as well as protect critical systems." The board's systems remain active. The TDSB is also working with the Toronto Police and the Ontario Privacy and Information Commission to resolve this issue.
"We are assessing the incident with the help of experts and will notify everyone if it is determined that personal information has been affected," the council said.
