New Brunswick Police Investigate Sudden Death on Christmas Eve

St. John's police are appealing for information regarding a sudden death early on Christmas Eve.

A woman was found unconscious on the side of the road in the 600 block of Lancaster Street on the city's west side at 4 a.m. Tuesday.

"The victim, identified as Nixie Arboleda Rodriguez, a 30-year-old woman from St. John's, was found on the ground with serious injuries," said St. John's Police Chief Matthew Weir. Forensic services and the Major Crimes Unit were called to the scene to investigate. Weir said an autopsy is scheduled to be performed in the near future to determine the cause of death.

As part of the ongoing investigation, police are asking any potential witnesses or anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident to contact police.

“This area of the city could have businesses that have surveillance cameras,” Weir said. “In addition, many people these days have surveillance cameras installed in their homes. Cameras like Ring, which often record things from the road and in front of houses.”

Weir stressed that the investigation poses no threat to the public.
