Ontario family fears 14-year-old travelling alone could be stranded overseas due to Air Canada strike

An Ontario family is worried that an Air Canada flight attendant strike could leave their 14-year-old daughter stranded in Europe. Marie-Louis said her granddaughter was scheduled to fly solo from Paris to Toronto this week and then return home to Kitchener, Ont., according to CTV.

Louis said her daughter’s flight hasn’t been canceled yet, but the family’s concerns have grown with the hundreds of other flights canceled due to the labor dispute. She also said trying to book an alternative flight is too expensive and that contacting Air Canada has been fruitless.

The D’Souza family also faced a sudden cancellation of their flight to Dublin at Waterloo International Airport, leaving them unable to make an independent decision. Two other sisters from Kitchener were also stranded in Scotland due to the strike and had to book their flights with another airline because return tickets cost more than $3,000 to $5,000.

Air Canada's bus service between Waterloo Region Airport and Pearson Airport is still operating, but those whose last leg of their journey involved the service were forced to call family to return home.

People who spoke to CTV supported the flight attendants' fight for higher wages, but called on Air Canada to better communicate with affected passengers and manage their situation.
