No strike notice so far as talks continue between Canada Post and workers' union
Canada Post has announced that negotiations with the union that represents postal workers are continuing and that neither side has issued notices of a work stoppage.
The state-owned company said both sides had agreed not to issue any 72-hour strike or lockout notices if talks progress constructively.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers is in legal status to strike as of today, but has yet to issue a strike notice and Canada Post says operations are continuing as normal.
Canada Post last week tabled its latest contract offer, which includes annual wage increases of 11.5 per cent over four years.
The union announced earlier this week that its members had overwhelmingly backed a strike if no agreement was reached at the negotiating table.
Federal Labor Minister Steven MacKinnon met with the union and Canada Post management last Thursday to encourage them to reach a negotiated settlement.
