CBC sources report that Doug Ford's harsh comments against Donald Trump — including calling him a "dictator" and threatening to use Ontario energy in negotiations — have deeply upset the White House.

But what sparked the rift?

A $75 million anti-tariff ad by the Ontario government that used a Reagan speech from 1987. Trump called the ad "fake" and threatened to impose a new 10% tariff on Canadian goods.

Prime Minister Mark Carney says talks were going well before the ads ran, but then they completely stalled.
