New strike by STM maintenance workers begins in Montreal
Starting today, 2,400 maintenance workers at the Montreal Transit Authority (STM) are on strike for 14 days.
🔹 The difference from the June strike is that this time, workers are refusing to work overtime, which would have caused further disruption to service.
🔹 Bus and metro service will be limited during off-peak hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
🔹 Detailed service hours can be found at stm.info/greve
and at metro stations.
📉 STM management has said the union’s salary increase request of about $300 million is beyond the organization’s financial means. They have proposed a 12.5% increase over five years, but the union has criticized the STM for relying on outside contractors instead of addressing its demands.
⚡ The STM covers around 1.1 million trips per day and includes 1,849 buses and 999 metro cars at 68 stations and 223 bus routes.
