New $340 fee for some travelers from Canada to the US in 2025

If you’re a Canadian resident planning to travel to the United States in 2025, you should be aware of a new law that could cost you a fortune. Dubbed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the “Integrity Fee” will be a $250 (about $340 Canadian) fee for some U.S. visa applicants.

Who is subject to this fee?

Canadian citizens who are entering the United States on visas such as:

A fiancé (K) visa to marry an American partner

A business or investment visa (E-1 or E-2)

A visa for official or international missions (A or G)

Will have to pay this fee.

Permanent residents of Canada, even if they have lived in Canada for many years, still need a visa to enter the United States and will therefore be subject to this fee.

Who is exempt?

Canadian citizens who enter the United States for short-term purposes, such as leisure, family visits, or short business missions, and do not require a visa, are exempt from paying this fee.

Important notes:

This fee is neither waived nor discounted.

A portion of the fee may be refunded only if the individual strictly complies with the terms of the visa and leaves the United States on time.

This law is part of the United States government's new and stricter policies to more closely control the temporary entry and exit of foreign nationals into the country.
