More than 700 speed cameras to be removed in Ontario
Ford government's controversial decision: Removing speed cameras from Ontario streets
Starting November 14, 2025, all automated speed cameras (ASE) will be removed from Ontario's streets — a decision that has been met with mixed reactions from the public and experts.
The plan includes more than 700 devices in 40 municipalities, including major cities such as Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton.
The Ontario government says the goal is to reduce operating costs for municipalities and prevent waste of public funds.
But transportation experts warn that removing the systems could lead to increased speeding and the risk of fatal crashes.
Despite the controversy, the Ford government is pushing ahead with the plan, describing it as part of a "fiscal reform to protect taxpayers."
