More than 1,200 No Frills workers could go on strike in Ontario next week
More than 1,200 Unifor members who work at Loblaw's No Frills stores may go on strike starting Monday, the union said in a statement Thursday.
Loblaw should be prepared to raise wages, improve working conditions and create more full-time jobs for these grocery store workers. They deserve decent work and wages. "It's as simple as that," Unifor National President Lana Payne said in the statement. Each fiscal quarter, Loblaw is more profitable than the last. It's past time that the workers who help them earn those profits have a share so they can support their families."
According to Unifor, the company is refusing to address demands for wages and working conditions amid Canada's affordability crisis.
Unifor recently approved a new collective agreement with subway workers, ending a five-week strike that began in July. The union said the agreement includes an immediate raise of $1.50 an hour, increased benefits and pensions, better scheduling and job protections against the implementation of personal paybacks.
