The story:
Brian Hayward, a 36-year-old Hamilton, Ontario man accused of drugging, raping and filming his ex-girlfriend, now faces another charge: sexually abusing his 6-year-old cousin 19 years ago.

He was arrested by Hamilton police on May 16 after a W5 investigation found he was sharing videos of women who appeared to be intoxicated and abusing them.

Since the arrest, several women have come forward to Hamilton police, expressing concerns that they may have been victims of Hayward. Police have not released the number of people involved, saying in a statement:
"To protect the integrity of the investigation, we are not releasing the number."

Historic charge:
The new charge involves a girl who was 6 years old at the time and is now 25. She is being referred to in the W5 report as Taylor to protect her identity.

In an exclusive interview with W5, Taylor detailed the abuse she says she suffered at the hands of Hayward during that time:

"You never think it would happen in your own home. It was my birthday. We were playing hide and seek. Brian would always say, 'Let's hide under this blanket,' and I would go. And then he would start touching me..."

Taylor kept the incident to herself at first, but three years later, when she was nine and her mother was planning her birthday party, she told her.

"I remember we were in the car going to Common Core. My mother was talking about my birthday party and she said Brian was coming. I said, 'Please don't be upset, but I don't want Brian to come. This happened.' And then I went to court to tell my story."

Brian Hayward was charged with the charge at the time and the case went to trial, but it ultimately failed. Taylor was not allowed to have her parents with her during the trial, and Hayward's defense attorney crushed her during the interrogation.

"I brought two of my favorite dolls to court. But I couldn't finish my sentence and endure that trial. It really hurt me."

Family reaction:
Taylor's father, named in Mark's report, is proud of his daughter's courage and criticizes the justice system for failing his family at the time.

"I was outside the courtroom when I heard my daughter break down. It really felt like someone had stabbed me in the heart."

Mark is calling for life imprisonment for Hayward:

"This monster should stay behind bars for the rest of his life. Because he's going to keep doing this."

Current status:
Brian Hayward is currently being held at the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Center, and his bail hearing is scheduled for June 13.

Hamilton police said in response to questions about Hayward's past charges:
"We will review all of his records and we will be there for the victims if they are willing and able."

Taylor also said he plans to press his case with greater force this time:

"I want justice to be served. I'm not going to let my anger get in the way of me this time. It makes me angrier than ever to see him go free and hurt others." Source
