Durham Police have announced the arrest of a man who attempted to steal a police car
An Ajax man who tried to steal a Durham County police cruiser and steal an officer's gun has been arrested.
It happened on Wednesday, June 5 at around 4.35pm in Whitby. According to investigators, the suspect approached a female officer's cruiser and tried to pull her out of the car and steal her gun.
Unable to steal a gun or a police cruiser, the man fled in his car. Police were able to find him driving near Highway 401 and Stevenson Road with the help of a K9 unit and a police helicopter.
The officers were able to stop the suspect's car and arrest him without incident.
Daniel Patrick Jr. McKnight, 32, faces charges including robbery, attempting to disarm a peace officer and assault on a peace officer.
