Doug Ford wants federal workers in Ottawa to get back to work
Doug Ford wants federal workers in Ottawa to get back to work
Ontario Premier Doug Ford has urged federal workers in Ottawa to return to work.
At a news conference on Monday, March 27, 2024, he said, "Federal employees must go back to work.
The federal government needs to get back to Ottawa and get on with it."
Ford said the protests by federal workers are "unacceptable" and will hurt Canada's economy.
"These protests are hurting the people of Ottawa and the people of Canada," he said.
These protests must stop."
Federal workers in Ottawa have been on strike since 2019 to protest the lack of pay raises.
The protests have shut down many government services in Ottawa.
It is not yet clear when these protests will end.
Here are some reactions to Ford's request:
The Public Employees Union of Canada (PSAC) said Ford was only seeking to escalate tensions rather than seek a solution to the protests.
Some people in Ottawa are backing Ford and saying federal workers should go back to work.
Others in Ottawa are supporting federal workers, saying they have a right to protest for better pay.
It is not yet clear when these protests will end.
