Do you recognize these men? RCMP seek Metro Vancouver grandparent scam suspects
Ridge Meadows Police (RCMP) in Metro Vancouver have released images of two men accused of being involved in so-called "grandparent scams" earlier this year and are hoping the public can help identify them.
On Friday, Ridge Meadows police announced that during an investigation into the scams, which took place in August, images of the men were captured on surveillance video. The scams have targeted elderly residents in the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows areas.
In these scams, victims are contacted by phone and accused pretending to be a family member's lawyer, claiming that a relative is in an emergency, and asking for money to solve the problem, for example for Release a person from prison or post a car accident.
These defendants then met with the victims and completed the cash transaction in person.
Police asked anyone who may recognize the men to call 604-463-6251 and quote case number 17044-2024.
Authorities are also urging those who fall victim to such scams to report them to local police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
