Canada-wide warrant issued after alleged parental abduction of 5-year-old; child believed to be in Colombia
Canada-wide arrest warrant issued after 5-year-old child allegedly kidnapped by mother; child likely in Colombia
A Durham Regional Police badge is displayed in Bowmanville, Ont., on Feb. 28, 2023.
A nationwide arrest warrant has been issued for a 41-year-old woman for the alleged kidnapping of her child, Durham Regional Police said.
According to a statement released Wednesday, officers in the west-central Durham region began their investigation into the case in August 2024.
Police say the child's mother took her 5-year-old child to Colombia and is now refusing to return him to Canada.
That's why a nationwide arrest warrant has been issued for her. Patricia Montero-Zambrano, 41, is wanted on charges of "parental kidnapping in violation of a custody order."
Police said efforts are underway to return the child from Colombia to Canada and reunite him with his father.
Durham police also said there are no images of Patricia Montero-Zambrano or the 5-year-old boy available at this time.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Durham police at 905-579-1520 ext. 1829 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
