A woman and two children were found in critical condition in an apartment building east of Toronto
Toronto police are investigating after a woman and two children were found in critical condition at an apartment building in Scarborough.
Police say they received multiple calls around 7:30 p.m. Sunday for the woman, believed to be in her late 20s or early 30s, at an apartment building near the intersection of Kennedy and Elsmore roads. Callers told police they believed the woman had fallen from a balcony.
When police arrived, they found the woman outside the apartment building in critical condition. Two children, both believed to be under the age of eight, were in critical condition in the same apartment unit.
Investigator Jeff Bengild said the children had no visible injuries but were not in vital signs when first responders found them. Both children were transported by EMS to nearby trauma centers, he said.
He said: "At this stage, the medical staff are doing the best care to save the lives of the babies as well as the woman who was on the ground. "It's quite an extensive crime scene ... it's going to take some time to continue this investigation and determine what led up to this evening's events." Bengild said investigators believe the children and the woman are related. are, although it is not yet clear how. The identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
